Yesterday evening we arrived in the Austrian alps, specifically in a valley called „Großes Walsertal“. We‘re here on a slow winter holiday (plus some skiing) and if you follow my stories you’ve already caught a glimpse of where we’re staying. Follow along for more in the next few days!
Zambia memories from my last two trips. Often eno Zambia memories from my last two trips. Often enough I look at these photos and delve into memories… ✨ And then I remember to also contextualize what these encounters and moments mean. How much work and effort goes into conservation. What it means to safeguard these ecosystems and the wildlife not just for our benefit as tourists, but also for future generations. The rangers and scientists, the guides and communities, the policy makers and enforcers, everyone who works together to ensure the protection of these places. Yet, without a profitable wildlife economy the pressure on natural resources increases. And what that means is clear. Logging, agriculture, cattle farming, human settlements—you name it. Nature disappears and becomes a commodity. Scientists tell us with ever increasing urgency that nature isn’t a commodity that should simply be used and traded. Nature is an asset—to invest in, to protect and grow—for the long term. With that shift in mindset we can change the way we look at nature and find other means of economical use. More sustainable ones so. And eco tourism is one of those ways (and the one I’m obviously most passionate about personally) ☺️ Zambia is one of the countries with incredible potential in benefitting from a sustainable eco tourism development and I hope it continues on this trajectory with caution and long term planning. So that encounters like these are possible well into the future.
Discover Zambia: A Safari Like No Other 🐘🐆🦓✨ I realize I might sound like a broken record, but Zambia is such a special place to me and yet they still call it the „best kept secret in Africa“, because not too many people have added it to their safari bucket list… what a pity! So, please bear with me while I shout it from the rooftops: Zambia’s got it all (including a part of my heart) ♥️🇿🇲 From breathtaking waterfalls to untamed wilderness, incredible wildlife density in unparalleled privacy, excellent guides and friendly people, authentic owner-run camps and impressive conservation efforts. The list goes on. In this post I’m sharing my tips for where to go in Zambia and what makes the regions special. 📍Save this post if you plan to go: 🌿 Lower Zambezi: My absolute favorite. Scenic beauty, wildlife deluxe (wild dogs, leopards, lions, elephants) and a wealth of activities from walking to canoe safaris! 🛶🌅 🐆 South Luangwa: Known as the “Valley of the Leopard,” it’s a must-visit for incredible walking safaris, night drives and sleepouts under the stars. 🌌🐆 🦅 Kafue National Park: Zambia’s largest and oldest park is a nature lovers paradise. Think lions with large black manes, cheetahs, leopards and more! 🦁 🌊 Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya): A wonder of the world that’ll take your breath away! If you don’t fear heights go on a microlight flight for jaw-dropping views. 🪁🪽 🐾 North Luangwa: I haven’t been there yet, but it’s on top of my bucket list! Off the beaten track and a truly wild experience—think walking safaris and black rhinos! 🦏 ✨ Liuwa Plains: another item on my bucket list. A vast wilderness with Africa’s second largest wildebeest migration crossing the endless plains. The starry night skies here are supposedly also amazing! 🌠🦬 📸 Insider tip: Visit in the dry season (June-Oct) for best game viewing, but the shoulder season (May & November) is perfect if you want to save a bit of money. The last few days I somehow couldn’t find the en The last few days I somehow couldn’t find the energy to recap my personal 2024. It’s been a challenging year in some respects. My career is shifting in ways I didn’t plan or anticipate and that means letting go of old things, sometimes before the new has arrived. It’s like watching old flowers decay and waiting for the new blossoms to arrive. My personal guiding word and principle for 2025 will be „acceptance“. As in accepting that there is constant change and progress and things need time to evolve and grow. And that pathways aren’t always linear, in fact they are probably more often crooked than straight. Photographically speaking 2024 was a year that challenged me to stay patient and reflect upon my own virtues. Change is happening all around the creative industries with AI disrupting everything and moving images dominating the algorithms, but it doesn’t make sense for me to do it all and change who I am to the core. I believe there is a space in this world for my personal qualities and the way I see and perceive the world. Travel wise 2024 was a year of giant opportunities, which presented themselves—some of them magically without my own doing and some of them after years of preparation and waiting and shifting around. I can’t believe I got to see gorillas in the wild. Something I had dreamed of for years and years. I went to Bhutan, a place that seemed far out of reach even for my dreams. I guided my first group trip in Zambia, which challenged and fulfilled me in new ways. I traveled to Zimbabwe and Kenya all on my own, relying on myself and learning to trust my intuition better. There’s much more to be said about 2024, but really I’m just ready for 2025 and where the currents of this new year will pull me. I will try to lean in more and flourish in acceptance.
