A winter escape to the Côte d‘Azur (on assignme A winter escape to the Côte d‘Azur (on assignment for @explorefrance | Advertisement). Did you know that the Côte d’Azur initially rose to fame as a winter destination for aristocrats and wealthy families from all over Europe? Today a lot has changed. Nowadays most visitors arrive in the busy summer months, when the Côte d’Azur is buzzing with yachts, film festivals and celebrities 🇫🇷☀️ It has gotten a lot quieter around the winter months, but that’s about to change! 💙🤍♥️ We kicked off our November trip in Cannes with glorious sunshine and mild temperatures. If there was an equivalent to Los Angeles in Europe it would be #Cannes. It’s all about glamorous luxury hotels and chic boutiques, movie stars and celebrities. And we find ourselves right in the middle of it – on the famous “Croisette”, the seaside boulevard that’s so emblematic for Cannes – and in the iconic “Carlton Cannes” hotel. I’ll soon share more from this trip and all my tips for a winter stay at the Côte d’Azur - so stay tuned. 🇫🇷 #ExploreFrance

Among my favorite activities at @patinamaldives wa Among my favorite activities at @patinamaldives was the dolphin cruise on a traditional Maldivian Dhoni boat (Advertisement | Press trip). Patina Maldives is located in the North Malé atoll at a section that is a hotspot for spinner dolphins. Each day we saw huge pods of dolphins pass by the island right in front of our villa. And during this particular boat cruise we came across a so called “super pod”, with our guide estimating more than 1,000 dolphins cruising around our boat. A memory I will hold dear forever! 🐬 #patinamaldives #patinahotels #visitmaldives
Capturing the architecture of @patinamaldives (Adv Capturing the architecture of @patinamaldives (Advertisement | Press trip). One of the main drawing points of Patina Maldives is the contemporary design of the resort. From the understated cubic villas to the art installations throughout the island, there’s a strong emphasis on creating an atypical Maldivian retreat, devoid of traditional elements like thatched roofs. The concept is clear and the rooms are still playing with natural elements like the light and shade from its surrounding lush tropical forest and the reflections of the Indian Ocean. #patinamaldives @patinahotels

While I just arrived in Zimbabwe here’s another While I just arrived in Zimbabwe here’s another throwback to the #Maldives and our time at @patinamaldives (Advertisement | Press trip). One thing that strikes me about the Maldives is how the visual language can so easily deflect from the deeper messages and local challenges. It’s easy to get caught by the mesmerizing shades of turquoise, but then if you look just a millisecond closer you’ll realize the fragility of it all. Our dive instructor showed us the incredible marine abundance of the atoll, but also taught us about the effects of coral bleaching and climate change. It’s a vicious cycle where tourism contributes negatively, yet is so important for the islands at the same time. Patina Maldives has therefore set its focus on marine conservation and we learned a lot from resident marine biologist Oshin who is also spearheading the coral restoration program of the island. We took part in a ceramics course where we created all organic „planters“ for corals that are then used to create new habitats for marine life. So it’s worth looking behind the images of paradisiac beaches and islands and ask ourselves how tourism can be used responsibly—a fine line to be balanced (and yes there’s still much to improve), but I believe it’s a discussion worth our while. #patinamaldives @patinahotels
Dhoni boat ride with @patinamaldives (Advertisemen Dhoni boat ride with @patinamaldives (Advertisement | press trip). They call this experience “Wildlife Cruise” as to set the expectations to birds and any marine life that you can come across… but really it’s a 100% dolphin cruise! 🐬 And from what we experienced dolphin encounters seemed to be guaranteed here every day 😍🙌🏼 The abundance of spinner dolphins cruising the island in pods here is outstanding. In fact we saw dolphins from our room every single day… ♥️ On our sunset cruise we even came across a so called “Super pod” with an estimated 1,000 dolphins joining together for their evening travels out to the open sea for their nightly hunts. Spinner dolphins are also the species that loves interacting with boats swimming along the bow as well as jumping out of the water in acrobatic fashion—twisting and turning and splashing around you. I spent hours doing nothing but watching them glide through the water next to us and occasionally catching one that jumps with my camera (not an easy feat!). #patinamaldives @patinahotels #visitmaldives #northmaleatoll

Photo 6: Daily bike ride from our water villa It’s hard to describe the atmosphere of a place, but let me try! @comomaalifushi is one of those resorts with a very special incredibly laid-back vibe. We had packed some fancy Maldives style silk dresses and never wore them here. It’s a T-shirt, no make-up kind of place. And you’re barefoot. Even at dinner. I never blow dried my hair, but just went to dinner with wet hair from endless hours of snorkeling. To me that’s the best way to describe how it feels to be here! Thanks again to @comomaalifushi and @comohotels for having us and to @segara for the organisation. #comomaalifushi #maalifushi #visitmaldives
