When we first stayed at Cyprianerhof Dolomit Resort in the summer of 2018 (see here: 5 summer days in South Tyrol), we left knowing one thing for sure: We wanted to come back in winter. It took a bit longer than planned, but this January it finally happened. And all the stars aligned: fresh snow, a sunny welcome and perfectly groomed slopes awaited us.
Returning to a hotel is always a great opportunity to see how it has evolved (while–hopefully–staying true to its roots). Cyprianerhof is a family-run hotel, and just recently it has officially been handed over to the third generation. You can sense that transition in a positive way: there’s fresh energy and new ideas, but the warmth, attention to detail, and dedication to the region are very much the same.
One thing that hasn’t changed here is the feeling of being somewhere genuinely personal.
Much Easier Access to the Slopes
One of the biggest changes since 2018 is the direct access to the Carezza Dolomites ski resort. Since 2022 a new gondola connection right across the street from the resort makes everything noticeably simpler. From the hotel, it’s now quick and straightforward to get onto the mountain, which makes a real difference — especially in winter when you don’t want to lug around all your skiing gear.
Carezza is not a huge skiing resort, but comes with quite a variety of slopes from blue to black, while being less hectic than some of the larger Dolomite resorts. Being able to reach it so easily from Cyprianerhof makes skiing seamless and relaxed and we thoroughly enjoyed one day on the slopes (with the extra bonus of the incredible wellness offering awaiting us at the hotel afterwards).
Renovation in 2022: New rooms
Another major update came with a 2022 renovation, particularly with the addition of the new open floor plan rooms and suites. The redesign feels modern without being flashy. Spaces are brighter, more open, and designed to make the most of the mountain views with large balconies.
The design choices lean towards natural materials like wood and stone, tinted in a calm color palette — very much in tune with the Dolomite setting. It feels intentional and modern, but not trendy in a way that will age quickly.
Well-being with a view
Since 2018 the (already impressive) wellness area has also been expanded, and with quite the result. A new glass panorama sauna is a standout feature, but we especially loved the new outdoor whirlpool with views of the Rosengarten. Sitting inside a jacuzzi with a full panorama of the UNESCO world heritage of the Dolomites (especially under the canopy of the stars!) adds an extra dimension to the experience—relaxing, of course—but also very connected to the landscape. In summer the Milky Way even makes an appearance here, which must feel absolutely unreal.
It’s easily one of the most memorable spots at the resort. Warm water, cold winter air, and the Dolomite peaks right in front of you — needless to say we hit the bubble button more than two or three times each session!
Art, Culture & Community
Since the takeover of the new generation the resort has embraced culture and art as part of its identity in brand new ways. Cyprianerhof promotes what it calls “Cultura Dolomiti,” an approach that brings art, music, literature, and cultural events into the hotel experience — not just as entertainment, but as part of how the place connects to its surroundings and to guests, but also opening its doors to locals and creating a room to meet.
A shared table experience is now also part of the offering, which allows to forge connections with like-minded people from all over the globe, as the resort attracts local people as well as international travelers.
How about Sustainability?
Sustainability efforts are clearly something that a large resort cannot ignore these days. A mindful approach to sustainability seems to have started at Cyprianerhof earlier than elsewhere though. In 1988 the hotel was already awarded with the „Südtiroler Umweltzeichen“, and also carries the „EU Ecolabel“ since 2014.
The resort follows an „Eco-Bio“ philosophy, working with local materials, renewable energy systems like solar panels, woodchip heating, and efficient ventilation, and by partnering with local producers for food and produce.
The resort also focuses on environmentally friendly wellness practices (like salt electrolysis pools instead of chlorine).
Final Thoughts
Returning to Cyprianerhof in winter felt like reconnecting with an old friend — familiar, warm and welcoming — but also noticing how much positive growth has taken place. The easier ski access, thoughtful renovations, cultural engagement and real sustainability efforts add depth to the experience without diluting what made the place special to begin with.
For us, this revisit confirmed that Cyprianerhof isn’t just a destination for one season or one kind of trip — it’s a place that keeps evolving in ways that make you want to come back again.
