UGANDA EXPEDITION 2027. Seeing gorillas in the wi UGANDA EXPEDITION 2027. Seeing gorillas in the wild is undoubtedly one of those life-altering experiences that defy any words or descriptions. I vividly remember standing in the jungle after an (admittedly) strenuous hike of almost 4 hours when our guide told us to stop and listen. And there they were. Sounds of browsing and breaking branches not too far away from us in the dense emerald green tapestry. I must’ve held my breath for way too long, because the moment I found myself breathing again I felt a sharp pain in my lungs. A reminder that my body was still there and what my eyes of mere flesh were seeing was equally reality.
We found ourselves amidst a family of gorillas with a mighty silverback and curious and playful youngsters. Then and there I knew this was a moment too precious to explain in words. So the consequence of that is that you need to experience it with your own eyes of flesh, your own lungs that forget to breathe for a while, your own ears hearing the soft chants of a young gorilla calling for it’s mother.
I’m very pleased to therefore share something special with you: my first Uganda expedition happens in 2027. This has been in the works for a long time and it’s a special trip. This is tailored towards the creative souls among you. Together with acclaimed filmmaker Martina Trepczyk (@martinatrepczyk) we will be guiding you on an expedition made for photographers and filmmakers alike.
We closed pre-registrations last week and there’s only a few spots available. Registrations are open now until the end of March, so don’t wait too long. Reach out via DM to learn more.

World wildlife day with @timbuktu_travel. (Adverti World wildlife day with @timbuktu_travel.
(Advertisement) This world wildlife day I want to celebrate not just the wild animals, but also the people that protect the wild—especially the growing number of women in the field. There’s women who are stepping into roles long denied to them, bringing skill, intelligence, and an unshakeable sense of purpose to the protection of our planet’s most vulnerable species. They are trackers, analysts, first responders, and guardians. They are mothers and daughters. On my recent visit to Kenya with @timbuktu_travel, I spent time at Segera Retreat, where I could witness women like Ann Nawasa in action. She and her female colleagues are part of Kenyaā€˜s first all-female ranger unit that is now also protecting Eastern black rhinos, one of the most challenging jobs when it comes to wildlife conservation. Segera (@segeraretreat) has recently taken a significant step forward by translocating rhinos onto the land — a bold commitment that raises both the stakes and the responsibility. Protecting a species targeted by global criminal networks demands vigilance, coordination, and trust. It demands rangers, aerial surveillance, canine units and massive investments into security. And having women on board in all those roles is an important step not just for gender equality, but also for wildlife conservation, as a womanā€˜s impact can run even deeper in her community inspiring new generations of guardians of the wild. Conservation is often framed around animals. But it is people — brave, kind and engaged people (men and women!) — who make long-term coexistence possible. Today, let’s celebrate them. #WorldWildlifeDay
Winter shoot for @ayurvedaresortsonnhof. (Advertis Winter shoot for @ayurvedaresortsonnhof.
(Advertisement) We just returned from a week of producing winter photos for @ayurvedaresortsonnhof (while also sneakily adding time for a mini Ayurveda cure with lots of massages for us). Last time we visited here was in August last year and we fell in love with the Ayurveda treatments and made a plan to return in winter then and there. While the garden at the resort is an absolute dream in summer, we also enjoyed the calm snowy days up here in the mountains of Tyrol. Now the only question is: When should we return next? Spring or autumn? šŸ˜‰ #ayurvedaresortsonnhof #hinterthiersee #visittirol #tyrol
Next generation safari with @timbuktu_travel. (Adv Next generation safari with @timbuktu_travel.
(Advertisement) Its the perfect analogy: While these young lion brothers will soon be the next generation of leaders dominating the prides in Segera, @timbuktu_travel is already the next generation when it comes to adventure travel planning. šŸ˜… Haha. Sorry for this cheap analogy, but there’s some truth to it. We—the digital generation of sorts—are used to planning our travels online. Yet, the safari industry (and some other more complicated adventure destinations), have long avoided digitizing their offering. Traditional safari outfitters were the gatekeepers for decades. But with @timbuktu_travel the tide is changing. With their digital travel planner you can start building your dream itinerary with transparent info around accommodations and prices. Combined with their expert travel planners this is leveling up the game when it comes to booking a meaningful and conscious safari like the one I just had in Kenya. Say hello to next gen travel planning! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼āœØ Check it out yourself at www.timbuktutravel.com! Location: @segeraretreat.

Gone with @timbuktu_travel. (Advertisement) And n Gone with @timbuktu_travel.
(Advertisement) And no. This isn’t Timbuktu.
This is Kenya šŸ˜‰ But Timbuktu Travel was an incredible partner who planned this safari for me—guided by principles of conservation, community, culture and commerce. Let me explain what that means! 😊 Kenyaā€˜s Northern Laikipia region is a place I keep returning to on every Kenya trip. It’s so different from the well-trotten safari circuit in Kenya, but oh so special. I’ve been anywhere from Ol Malo to Lewa and to Ol Pejeta, which are each part of the same connected ecosystem, but also each very unique. For years this part of Laikipia remained high on my wishlist:
This is @segeraretreat and I finally got a chance to stay here! Segera is a 50,000 acre former cattle farm that has been transformed into an award-winning wildlife conservancy and eco-safari retreat. Today more than 350 people are employed at Segera, over 70% coming from local villages around the conservancy. There’s much more than the lodge, which I’ll soon show you. The lodge is luxurious, yes. But it’s the ethos behind it that fascinated me from the beginning. Segera retreat is also where @thelongrunorg was born and the principles of the 4 C were invented: It’s about promoting conservation, community, culture, and commerce. Together these form the building blocks to protect biodiversity, empower communities, promote their cultures, and contribute to the overall balance of the local ecosystem. Today ā€žThe Long Runā€œ has over 50 members—including @timbuktu_travel, all dedicated to sustainable tourism and conservation. And this is where the circle closes. @timbuktu_travel +

First impressions from an especially meaningful sa First impressions from an especially meaningful safari with @timbuktu_travel to Kenya (Advertisement) šŸ‡°šŸ‡Ŗ As promised I’m continuing with a new set of Kenya photos straight away! I just returned last week from a very memorable trip (still have to pinch me!) 🤩✨ This journey was in the making for quite a while. Since years I’ve been following how @timbuktu_travel evolved as a conscious tour operator in the world of eco tourism. I especially looooove their online travel platform, the first of its kind where you can start planning your safari guided by their hyper intelligent (and transparent!) digital planning tool. Iā€˜ve been using their website a looot to research new destinations, but also to understand regions and accommodation options better. Since 2025 Timbuktu is also member of The Long Run (@thelongrunorg), bringing their focus on purpose-driven travel to a whole new level. This trip connected their commitment to conservation and long-term positive impact with @thelongrunorg founding member @segeraretreat, which was on my bucket list since ages! I’ll soon share more about this, but make sure to check @timbuktu_travel and their outstanding digital travel planner on www.timbuktutravel.com and let me know if you love it as much as I do šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ˜ #timbuktutravel #segeraretreat #thelongrun #laikipia #kenya
Last set from the Maasai Mara (and Nairobi), Kenya Last set from the Maasai Mara (and Nairobi), Kenya šŸ‡°šŸ‡Ŗ Well, ironically this will be the last set of images from my trip to Kenya in November last year, but I’ll soon post images from Kenya again, this time from February 2026 šŸ˜… It’s been full circle coming back in such short periods of time, but also it proves over and over that it will never become boring to me. Not Kenya, not the animals, not even the safari itself. Even if it sometimes entails sitting in a vehicle for hours and hours without any significant photographic output. But the feeling of freedom, space and nature is quite unparalleled for me. As always I can’t wait to return! ✨ Thanks to @olimbamaracamp and the guides @losodickson and @johnsonmusukut for the wonderful moments on safari. Thanks to @ggkenya for always opening your home in Nairobi and for teaching your children the love for nature so exquisitely. May they serve as future guardians for our wild!
That day a black rhino crossed sand river. On safa That day a black rhino crossed sand river.
On safari with @olimbamaracamp (Advertisement). When we arrived in the Maasai Mara in November we were surprised that quite a few of the migration herds were still around. We closely monitored and followed their movements for a few days until our guides noticed that quite a few were headed towards a crossing point at sand river. And so on my birthday we decided to try our luck for a very unconventional and non-seasonal river crossing. A herd of zebras and some wildebeest had gathered at the riverbanks of sand river and we positioned ourselves perfectly for a potential crossing. Ours were the only two vehicles there, of course.
Nobody plans to witness crossings in November. But the zebras and wildebeest were happily munching at the riverbank, until suddenly they seemed uneasy and turned around, storming back and away from the river. Seconds later a black rhino appeared on the other side 🤯 We couldn’t believe our eyes.
None of this seemed real.
Even now when I watch this video I took with my iPhone I can’t believe this happened. I was prepared to photograph zebras crossing and suddenly I find myself shooting a black rhino in the most unreal scene ever. What a birthday! (We ended up seeing all Big Five in just that day alone, but that’s another story.) Guided by @losodickson and @johnsonmusukut.

(Advertisement) A simple tented camp with easy access to the Maasai Mara combined with a vision to create a conscious safari company in an ecosystem that’s as fragile as it gets. This was my second visit at this wonderful little camp, built by @photo.panthera and @amoskipeen in an attempt to do things differently. Their shared ethos is what keeps me intrigued, their efforts in reforestation and female empowerment are the impact I want to support when going on safari. This time I brought my dear friend @rrrudya on her very first proper safari (last shot is from her) and I believe she saw what I saw: a very special place in Kenya! #olimba #olimbamaracamp #olimbamara #maasaimara
