From a conservation perspective the impact of tour From a conservation perspective the impact of tourism cannot be overstated. While tourism lately has gotten a bad reputation for its negative effects on our global climate and regional eco systems the positive effects of traveling have become sidelined in discussions. I often feel like we are forced to take sides and consider tourism either a great evil or a positive force, when the truth - as so often - is found in all shades of grey in-between. In #Rwanda we learned all about the interconnection between tourism and conservation in @akagera.park - which has been established as wildlife stronghold and only Big 5 park in the country. Before Covid the park was already 90% self sustaining financially through (well managed) tourism - and will hopefully soon be back at this level (and beyond!). There’s only four lodges inside the vast National park, giving exclusive access to its abundant wildlife and iconic scenery. This is Ruzizi tented lodge, which is located at the shores of lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park. From here you can go on boat safaris - or simply watch the hippos from the deck. If you’re interested in traveling rwanda make sure to read my post on thetravelblog.at, to find out how your trip can effectively benefit local communities and wildlife. @printsforwildlife x @africanparksnetwork

Never enough giraffes in my life… 🤩♥️ We Never enough giraffes in my life… 🤩♥️ We‘re still preparing the next edition of the @printsforwildlife fundraiser - and as I browse through my photos from Rwanda one feeling remains: Gratitude 🙏🏼 I will be forever grateful these places exist - thanks to the tireless dedication of people, that work in conservation, as wildlife rangers or park guides, in the back offices and on the ground. It’s thanks to their efforts that we get to experience the natural world and their wonders. That’s why it’s such a joy to work on the fundraiser for @africanparksnetwork - being a tiny part of a much larger mission. Make sure to check @printsforwildlife for a sneak peek of the next edition today 🙌🏼♥️ #printsforwildlife #africanparks #rwanda #akagera #akageranationalpark

Who's benefitting from wildlife conservation? 🇷 Who's benefitting from wildlife conservation? 🇷🇼 On assignment for @africanparksnetwork and @printsforwildlife in #Rwanda (Unpaid Advertisement) If we protect wildlife and their natural habitats - who is really benefitting? This was one of the questions that we asked ourselves already at the begining of @printsforwildlife - when COVID-19 brought the world to a stillstand and tourism to a halt. Wasn't it a nice break for the animals if people stopped invading their spaces with safari cars and pointing cameras at them? Well, in fact, the relationship is much more intricate. And the answer is as complicated, as it sounds easy. Without people, there's no wildlife conservation! What might sound counterintuitive at first is only true at closer inspection. Because in fact the main threat for wildlife is the human race. Human wildlife conflicts, habitat loss, those are the main reasons for the demise of the natural world. But at the same time people need to be at the heart of the solution. ♥️ In #Rwanda we saw this first hand. Through the active involvement and participation of local communities wildlife and the ecosystems they live in can actually thrive. But this needs to be done right. People must not only benefit economically - through tourism revenues and surrounding community projects like bee-keeping, handcraft cooperatives and small scale businesses evolving in the vicinity of the parks. They must also be part of the decision processes and that's where @africanparksnetwork really excels. Each park's board includes members of the local communities, so they are involved in every decision. Soon we will launch the @printsforwildlife fundraiser, which will directly support @africanparksnetwork and the outstanding work they do in 20 parks in 11 African countries. Stay tuned for more! #printsforwildlife #africanparks #africanparksnetwork #akagera
New blogpost about #Rwanda is out! 🇷🇼 I’v New blogpost about #Rwanda is out! 🇷🇼 I’ve spent two weeks compiling all the infos about our Rwanda trip and making sure to put together a concise travel guide with all the infos about what this small Central African country has to offer - from chimpanzee trekking to Big 5 safaris ♥️ Thanks to @africanparksnetwork for having us in both @akagera.park and @nyungwepark and for letting us peak behind the scenes of the huge operation that is the management of a park. My blog post focuses on the tourism aspect of the trip, but we will soon release more stories from the conservation and community aspect over at @printsforwildlife - so stay tuned! #printsforwildlife #visitrwanda #akagera #akageranationalpark
Can you believe this is #Rwanda? 🇷🇼 On assig Can you believe this is #Rwanda? 🇷🇼 On assignment for @africanparksnetwork and @printsforwildlife (Unpaid Advertisement) In my mind Rwanda was mostly lush green hills, fog and gorillas. But in the very East there's a National Park with savannahs and plains, just like its adjacent big brother the Serengeti. I was lucky enough to spend a week in @akagera.park learning about its wildlife, but also about how African Parks manages this park from a community and conservation perspective. In the end it's all about people - how they safeguard these ecosystems and how they can actively benefit from it's protection. That's where sustainable conservation starts and ends. And that's when wildlife can thrive alongside the people who live in and around protected areas. Supporting @printsforwildlife directly benefits these places and I couldn't be more thrilled that we will soon launch the third edition of the fundraiser to support @africanparksnetwork. Stay tuned for more! #printsforwildlife #africanparks #africanparksnetwork #akagera
The colors of #Kenya 🌙☀️💙 While you dri The colors of #Kenya 🌙☀️💙 While you drive in an open vehicle through the vast savannah plains of Southern Kenya the landscapes around you switch colors like a Pantone wheel. From dark night blues to golden tinted orange tones, there's not a color to be missed here. 😍 I don't know how I can better explain the feeling of this then by the often misused word M-A-G-I-C. There's nothing more immersive and calming than a safari. Period. Proof me wrong if you dare!
