Meet the women of @oliveseed_foundation. (Advertis Meet the women of @oliveseed_foundation.
(Advertisement) When we stayed at @olimbamaracamp we had the chance to also learn more about why they started @oliveseed_foundation. The goal is to directly support women from Emarti, the village just next to the camp. Women there don’t have employment opportunities. The Maasai men here are predominantely cattle herders and women usually tend to the household and kids, without access to paid labour. On the third picture you see Mary Sereyia Ntayia who works at Oliveseed Foundation as a seamstress to be able to pay for school education for her four children. The fourth and sixth pictures show Helen Silau Nchoko, the Women’s center project manager, who is responsible for the team and took the time to explain their work to us. In total 17 women work at the foundation since 2023 doing handcrafts and selling their products to generate additional income independently from their husbands. This helps them being able to contribute to the household income, which in return gives them a voice in decision making within the family. And it’s not just that.
Next to the beadwork the women also sew sanitary pads, so girls can continue to go to school when they’re on their period. Last year alone they provided 2,000 girls with a set of pads—an incredible feat for female empowerment in the region! @olimbamaracamp is a small camp, just at the outskirts of the Maasai Mara, but they’re showing what positive social impact can look like. Olimba Mara is Maasai co-owned and co-founded by Amos Kipeen, who is the mastermind behind the community and conservation efforts—a clear indicator that participatory engagement of local communities goes a long way. The next step is to build a kitchen to supply the women with lunch, but also to train women from communities to become chefs. This is what socially conscious safaris look like!

Shot on @nikondach (Advertisement). It was my birthday.
The first time I spent a birthday on safari.
And Kenya‘s Maasai mara celebrated me the best way possible. An elephant bull sleeping next to a tree was one of the best birthday presents I could think of. We stayed there for a while just watching him carefully placing his trunk on the ground, balancing his weight from one leg to another to get some rest. He closed his eyes at times and seemed so at ease it was a scene so pure and serene we just watched in awe. Settings:

Impressions from the Maasai Mara, Kenya 🇰🇪 On saf Impressions from the Maasai Mara, Kenya 🇰🇪
On safari with @olimbamaracamp (Advertisement). I just returned from my first safari of this year, but there’s still so many unpublished photos from the last safari of the previous year… both trips brought me to Kenya coincidentally! 😊 So here it goes—a collection of a few favorites from our time in the Maasai Mara in November 2025. The reserve is under much scrutiny for many understandable reasons: congested areas, unregulated sightings, vehicle pressure and lately also the addition of a luxury lodge that directly blocks a century old key wildlife migration route. Corruption and completely irresponsible governance seem to prevail, endangering a conservation area so successful it might become a victim of its own success. I‘m torn when it comes to the Maasai Mara. I want people to have access to nature and wildlife, to learn and be in touch with the wild. But it shouldn’t come at the expense of that very wilderness we seek. Places like @olimbamaracamp strike a balance between the ecological and cultural significance of the Mara. Co-owned by a local Maasai, with its own @oliveseed_foundation supporting women empowerment and commercial participation, they make sure a trip to the Mara can be a responsible and ethical undertaking. Wha are your thoughts on the safari industry in the Maasai Mara?

(Advertisement) This was in the making for quite some time until the stars finally aligned ✨ But it’s been a few wonderful days spent between the slopes, mountains and saunas—trying to capture a bit of the essence of @cyprianerhof_dolomit_resort. A hotel dedicated to its surroundings since generations. You can sense the family‘s commitment to the region and how they honor this special piece of land that they get to call home. I hope these photos do it justice. #cyprianerhof #cyprianerhofdolomitresort #southtyrol
Winter days in South Tyrol 🇮🇹❄️ @cyprianerhof_dolo Winter days in South Tyrol 🇮🇹❄️
@cyprianerhof_dolomit_resort (Advertisement) Last time we visited this special place was during summer of 2018 and since then we had hoped to one day return in winter. Finally the wish came true this week! 🤩 Located at 1,175m above sea level directly at the iconic Rosengarten mountain range, this family owned resort is one of the most renowned alpine hotels in South Tyrol. And for very good reasons! Since our last visit a lot has changed: • A brandnew gondola right across the street connects Cyprianerhof directly to the Carezza Dolomites ski resort. • A million dollar renovation brought huge updates to rooms, a new panorama glass sauna and the most iconic whirlpool I have ever seen in my life. • And last but not least a handover to the new generation is on its way, taking over from their parents and leading the resort into the future with a new focus on culture and sustainability. I’ll show you more soon, but this first set should give you an idea ✨ #cyprianerhof #stzyprian #southtyrol #suedtirol
A short break from Africa to go skiing in Austria A short break from Africa to go skiing in Austria 🇦🇹
(@stiegnhaus Advertisement). Whenever I am home in Austria in winter I try to leave grey Vienna to head to the mountains 🏔️ ❄️ I wouldn’t say I’m essentially a mountain person, but in winter they cast a magic spell on me. Mostly because the sun is often hiding behind fog and clouds in the low lying areas like Vienna and the mountains tend to get much more sun in winter. But also because skiing is the only sports I ever really loved and halfway excelled in 😅 Plus checking out brand new design hotels in the alps has become a bit of a hobby / obsession 🫠☺️ @stiegnhaus has just opened in 2025 and is a owner-run six-suite design hotel in the village of Mühlbach am Hochkönig. We stayed in the Pergola suite which comes with a private spa, featuring a sauna, large bathtub and even an outdoor whirlpool on a private terrace. We loved the suite-only concept, attention to detail (there’s a cosmetics refrigerator in the bathroom!), à la carte breakfast, the intimacy of the boutique stay and the wonderful team. And Hochkönig is a wonderful skiing arena too with a great variety of slopes and excellent huts. #austria #hochkoenig #skiamade @skiamade @muehlbachamhochkoenig
My favorite wildlife lens. (@nikondach Advertiseme My favorite wildlife lens.
(@nikondach Advertisement) When I packed for Kenya’s Maasai Mara, one lens was a non-negotiable: the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Super-Tele Zoom Lens. Why? Because it’s the ultimate wildlife all-rounder. In the Mara, you need to go from a wide environmental shot of a lion to a tight portrait of a leopard. This lens handles it all without missing a beat. The best part is the practicality. When you’re hopping on tiny bush planes, weight and size are everything. This lens gives you massive reach without the „big glass“ price tag or the back-breaking bulk. While it has some constraints in low light, the performance-to-price ratio is unbeatable. Whether you’re an ambitious starter or a pro, this is the smartest glass you can carry on safari. #NikonCreator
