At the presentation of the new Nikon Z 8 in London At the presentation of the new Nikon Z 8 in London I already knew this was exactly the camera I had been waiting for (@nikondach Advertisement) šŸ“·āš”ļø The Nikon Z 8 has the same sensor and image processor as the Z 9, but in a much smaller body without a vertical grip. And that was the only reason I held back on purchasing the Z 9. I rarely used the vertical grip and didn’t need the extra weight. But now the Z 8 unites all the features I’ve wanted in a smaller body, which is the ideal setup for me. It also has the same dual card slot as my previous Z 6II and luckily also needs the same type of batteries, so I don’t have to buy new ones. The only thing I need to do is the initial setup: • Setting the time zone
• Changing the file naming convention
• Switching off automatic ISO
• Setting the picture control to neutral
• Setting the image quality to RAW And then I’m ready to shoot! Soon I’ll share my first experiences and results. Disclaimer: I bought the camera myself, so it is not sponsored, but I have a partnership with @nikondach. #Nikon #NikonAmbassador #NikonDACH #NikonAustria #NikonDeutschland #NikonSwitzerland #mirrorless #NikonFamily #CreateYourLight #NikonZ8

The Dominican Republic was probably my last trip with the Z 6II as my main camera—as I’m now switching to the brand new NIKON Z 8. But the Z 6II has been my most trusted partner for three wonderful years. She went with me on safaris, on tropical islands, icy mountains, on boats and motorcycles—and she never failed me once. It’s crazy how symbiotic a partnership with a camera can become! šŸ“·ā™„ļø Now Iā€˜m looking forward to my first trip with the new Z 8 and can’t wait to put her to the test. Her more powerful processor and image sensor will be a true game changer. Camera settings:

In partnership with @unwto, @instagram & @raybanstories (#Advertisement). When Instagram and the UNWTO asked me to participate in this project I was really interested, especially since I got to take part in a panel discussion at the UNWTO Executive Council talking about how to develop new narratives in tourism. But then they surprised me with a pre-conference trip itinerary that included all these incredible female artisanal projects - from banana leaf weaving to a female-run chocolate factory and I knew there was a story to tell about the Dominican Republic, that I wasn’t aware of. It’s not only 5-star-resorts and endless stretches of sandy beaches (well that too), but there’s more depth to it. Goal 5 of the SDGs is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls as a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. And tourism can largely contribute to this as well! If we choose to visit places like these we are supporting female empowerment directly. And that’s just one way to develop tourism in a more ethical and sustainble way.

In partnership with @unwto, @instagram & @raybanstories (#Advertisement) Iā€˜m discovering the hidden gems! When I think of the Dominican Republic what comes to mind first are endless beaches and fancy resorts. šŸļø But there’s so much more to it! I’ve been invited to show you a tiny fragment of what the Dominican Republic has to offer when you venture off-the-beaten path. The United Nations World Tourism Organization has partnered up with Instagram to showcase new narratives in tourism—focusing on the development of sustainable and ethical practices in the industry. It’s all about promoting conscious traveling and as you know that’s one of my core drivers as a travel photographer and storyteller! So I’m really honored to be a part of this project kicking off with this video about some of the most incredible places we discovered while travelling through the country!
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic šŸ‡©šŸ‡“ This regio Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic šŸ‡©šŸ‡“ This region of the Dominican Republic was probably the most unexpected part for me. Its defined by mountain ranges, rivers and waterfalls and sits at an elevation of 500 meters above sea level, making the climate a bit cooler than at the coastline. The indigenous Taino people originally inhabited the valley of Jarabacoa. It is assumed that the town's name was formed out of the words 'Jaraba' and 'Coa', meaning "Land of Waters" in the TaĆno language. Hence many people come here to cool off in the waterfalls or go canyoning and rafting as well as hiking the Caribbean’s highest mountain - Pico Duarte. It’s all about ecotourism in Jarabacoa and that’s a welcomed change from resort vacations for the Dominican Republic. It’s also an ideal stopover between Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata if you consider a road trip on the island! #jarabacoa #godomrep #dominicanrepublic #dominicanrepublicšŸ‡©šŸ‡“
What I learned in the Dominican Republic? šŸ‡©šŸ‡“ What I learned in the Dominican Republic? šŸ‡©šŸ‡“ Once more: to challenge my preconceptions. Yes, it’s true—the Dominican Republic actually invented all-inclusive tourism and resorts. Punta Cana didn’t exist before a clever businessman turned it into today’s all inclusive resort town. But outside of Punta Cana waits an island full of new things to experience and discover. And if you want to stay at a beach after traveling around the island I suggest the North coast—also dubbed Coconut coast šŸļøšŸ„„ When you’re into surfing and kite surfing go for Cabarete and it’s laid back vibe and excellent waves and wind. And when you’re into pure beach relaxation and crystal clear turquoise water the place in these photos is made for you: Playa Grande. We only stayed here for a short stop on our way from Puerto Plata to Punta Cana, but what we saw blew our minds šŸ˜ a huge calm bay fringed by endless palm trees, a small collection of wooden huts, fine white sand and almost no people. Save this location if you ever plan a trip to the Dominican! #playagrande #playagrandebeachclub #dominicanrepublic #dominicanrepublicšŸ‡©šŸ‡“ #godomrep
The Dominican Republic: More than just beaches… The Dominican Republic: More than just beaches… šŸ‡©šŸ‡“šŸļøšŸ„„ Before I’ll go on stage at the @unwto executive council let me share a first set of photos from our trip through the Dominican Republic! šŸ˜ While the Dominican Republic is famous for its stunning beaches, we got to see a much more diverse destination in the last few days. From colonial history and cigar workshops in Santo Domingo, to cocoa farms with roaming peacocks all the way to Victorian beach huts at Playa Grande, waterfalls in Jarabacoa and colorful streets of Puerto Plata… there’s so much to experience beyond a beach holiday. I suggest to plan your DR trip as a roundtrip and end up at the beach after exploring some of the more hidden gems of the country. But I’ll share more tips soon! Now off to our session about new narratives in tourism.
From the pool to the beach—with a side of wildli From the pool to the beach—with a side of wildlife. At @thedatailangkawi (Advertisement | Press stay). 🌊 The bonus of staying at a hotel that’s literally part of the wilderness: We spent hours watching the wildlife right within the resort! 🤩 The hornbills next to the pool, flying squirrels from our roomā€˜s terrace and dusky leaf monkeys at the beach. We also saw giant monitor lizards, sleeping pythons, giant squirrels, kingfishers and much more. We went on a birdwatching experience with the resident naturalist as well as a ā€žJourney through the forestā€œ that took us all the way up on an elevated platform in the jungle canopy. It felt like a mini safari and you know how much I love this type of wildlife experience. So my personal checklist for a perfect hotel stay always includes some type of wilderness experience! ā™„ļø Be it a remote location or a nature immersion experience—there better be a touch of wild included. #TheDataiLangkawi #DiscoverDatai #DataiTurns30 #Datai30YearAnniversary #malaysia #visitmalaysia #malaysiatrulyasia #langkawi
When the sun sets at @thedatailangkawi (Advertisem When the sun sets at @thedatailangkawi (Advertisement | Press stay). I might have mentioned how much we loved our time at this place, so I’ll show you a few more impressions to give you a better idea about it! This is the view of the main building, home to the lobby, bar and the dining room. It sits at an elevated position up in the jungle—with views over the canopy and the bay. At night the space is lit up magically and you can hear the cicadas sing their love songs. This is where Chef Chai curated a 10-course vegetarian and gluten-free degustation menu for us and we watched the birds come to the pool for an evening sip. And this is how every night just cast its spell on us and we fell in love with Langkawi. Thank you @thedatailangkawi for having us! #TheDataiLangkawi, #DiscoverDatai, #DataiTurns30 #Datai30YearAnniversary
